“You don’t know how strong you are until being strong is the only option you have.”

I don’t think of myself as a strong person — mentally or physically. But when I look back on my life, and think of the times I needed to be strong, I somehow found a superhuman strength — both physical and mental. When you have no other option, an inner strength bursts out and carries you through the trauma.

Leaving my first marriage which had become physically abusive, I stayed strong. My children went off to school and kindergarten; I loaded up a truck with some furniture, packed my car, picked up the kids from school and drove almost 1,000km to my parents. I told the kids we were going on a holiday.

Looking back, I really don’t know how I did that. Whenever inner strength is needed, I seem to find it. Do you too?
