What Do I Know About Irish Wolfhounds?

Well, not a lot but…

The other one at Bunratty.

…they’re HUGE! In fact, I think they might be bigger than Great Danes. And they’re gentle, loving giants.

I got up close and personal with a couple of these placid dogs at Ashford Castle. On our way to the drawing room where coffee was to be served, we came across two huge Irish wolfhounds — big babies really at only 18 months old — and I sat down on the soft carpet to pat one of them. They were quite affectionate and my companion snapped several photos of me with them. Sadly, I don’t have any of those photos.

Here they are going for their morning constitutional. At the entrance to the hotel, there are two statues of Irish Wolfhounds so maybe they are part of Ashford Castle’s 800-year history.

Even though I’ve only seen Irish Wolfhounds twice, I loved them but I could never own one. They are just too big!

Have you ever owned an Irish Wolfhound? I bet Keeley uses the same two photos. 😜
