What a Weekend!
Murphy’s Law at Its Best.
A last minute decision sees me set off with my friend on Saturday morning for some “peace and quiet”. I leave all the details up to him — he is to surprise me. He decides we’ll go to Hervey Bay — a 3 hour drive.
The first surprise.
We have barely left home when we get stuck on the highway. Not a problem — we haven’t seen each other for a few months so we have a lot of catching up to do, mainly me gushing about my grandson, but he’s a good listener.
After three and a half hours, we stop at Torbanlea for a bite to eat. I’m starving by this time so I choose curried egg sandwiches as well as a bacon, cheese and potato fritter, washed down with a a Dare iced coffee. Glenn has a chicken and salad wrap.Tummies full, we drive on.
The second surprise.
First things first. Let’s find somewhere to stay the night. This is the second surprise! We enquire at the Mantra, no rooms tonight…what the… then the Great Sandy Straits Resort…same story… Maybe it’s because they are overlooking the ocean, so we drive along the Esplanade to the Oaks Resort and Spa — you guessed it, not a single room available for love nor money.
Still not overly concerned, we drive all the way along the Esplanade seeing more No Vacancy…
