We had virtually no books in our house until I was 10 and I received a copy of Heidi's Children. Of course I had to go searching for Heidi and z Heidi grows up. I don't know if it's because I had no books when I was a child, but now I have a huge collection. A double garage worth of books- 56 boxes last time I moved. The removed list said they had never seen so many books!
