We all know Americans and Australians speak differently. Our accents are different but we still understand one another — most of the time.

We all speak English. But it’s a little different when it comes to writing. Americans use the Webster Dictionary written by Noah Webster in the early part of the nineteenth century.

He wrote books which taught children to read, and he had the idea to simplify English words to make them easier for children to spell. Fair enough…

I am averse to adopting American spelling in my writing. Just because I spell words in Oxford English does not make me wrong.

My hesitation in using American English stems from the fact that Australia is losing its Australianism and becoming more and more American. Our kids watch so much American TV they have American accents when they start school.
