This is very sad.

White Nose Syndrome is a fungal infection that wakes hibernating bats during months when they should be inactive and conserving energy. The constant waking caused by the growth on the bat’s nose, ears, and face makes the bats expend energy that they cannot afford to lose and starvation ensues (source).
