That’s the proper way to pronounce it. It is derived from the Urdu language. The a is pronounced ah as in grass with a long a. I know Americans say grass with a short a which is fine. Like a regional accent. But because of the derivation of the word and how it came into the English language, even Americans need to pronounce it with a long a. It also then can get confused with cacky describing poo. Aren’t you pleased I know so much about words? lol
