My teachers all inspired me
I don’t remember my early years teachers but they must have encouraged me to learn to read. Reading was my escape from my real life childhood. Anne of Green Gables and Heidi were my favourite series. In grade 5, I had Mr Lawrie who sparked my love of maths. (yes I love maths because it makes sense) Mrs Rush in grade 6 inspired my thirst of knowledge about the world. My George in year 7 taught me how I think quickly. We had a mental arithmetic session every morning and the classroom seating plan was changed for the day. The aim for me was to stay sitting in the back row. I loved it but I suppose the kids who never got any correct didn’t really like sitting down the front next to Mr George’s desk. I’m grade 8 we had Mr Jacobs. I don’t think he inspired me much but he did motivate me. I was sent to the headmaster’s office once for some misdemeanour. It was the first and only time in 12 years of school I ever had to report to the main man’s office. Whatever I had done, I never did it again. Yes I was a goody-two-shoes.
I won’t go and list all of my high school teachers. I studied 8 subjects for junior and 6 subjects for senior. I wasn’t a straight-A student but I was close. 😇
So would you be surprised if I told you I entered primary school teaching at age 20 and was still teaching part time at 55?
Tagging Keeley Schroder.
For those of you who don’t know, I’m in Manila and it’s summer. The heat is oppressive. The humidity is next level. I swear it’s more humid than Brisbane. And that’s saying something. 🥵
