My Scariest Spider, Snake or Pest Story
Well if you live in Ireland or New Zealand, you probably won’t have any scary snake or spider stories, but if you live in Australia, you probably have dozens or if you’re like me, and lived on a cane farm, even more!
Snakes, spiders, rats, bats, blue tongue lizards, possums and toads. In the last few days, I’ve dealt with a tail and leg from either a rat or a possum on Lexi’s carpet (she’s in Vietnam) so Nala her cat must have got lonely or hungry or both and devoured the whole creature save the tail and leg. Would anyone in the house touch it? Of course not, it’s mum to the rescue.
The night before last, I was up late on Medium when a spider ran over my shoulder. I was not expecting a spider in bed with me so reacted quickly, jumped up, ran to the kitchen and grabbed the spray. By the time I reappeared with spray in hand, he had all but disappeared behind my beside table. Normally I leave huntsmen alone, but not when they dare encroach on my personal space aka bed. I sprayed so much insecticide if the poison didn’t kill him outright, he would have drowned in it. I wasn’t going to sleep if he lived.
The creatures I detest more than snakes or spiders or rats or bats are toads. These are not toads as the rest of the world knows them — these are cane toads — ugly, ugly, disgusting, almost indestructible, taking-over-Australia…
