Maybe I've been lucky in all my travels but I leave my suitcase at the end of the carriage. I don't even use the fancy locking device on it. I've never had a single thing stolen when I've been travelling. I have this theory the more security you put on your belongings the more thieves think you've got something worth stealing. The only bad things I've had happen to me I've done to myself. Lost my passport etc. I have no street smarts even when I'm home but this theory works for me at home too.
