I usually wear my boots on the plane because they take up a lot of room in my suitcase. I have to wear compression pantyhose - have you ever tried to get those on? I put socks over them to walk around on the plane. My thoughts of crashing are non-survival. "If this is how I die, at least I'll die doing something I love and not crossing the street."
