I think we are a little more lenient in Australia. When I went to university, Australians all had free university tuition. My sons only had to repay their HECS debt when they were earning over a certain amount of money. One who just turned 50 paid his off a few years ago and the other who has never had a job more than a few weeks never earned enough to pay back any of his debt.
