I knew about Split tickets, but didn't know about delay repay. I've only been stuck once in the UK and it was at Birmingham New Street Station. Because of floods. The delay was many hours but incredibly frustrating because the sign would announce a train coming to platform x so I'd change platforms only to be told one minute before arrival that that train had been cancelled. If I'd known I was going to have a 6 hour wait, I could have put my luggage in a locker and gone into the city.
