I have driven over those mountains that are just huge outcrops of rocks with no guard rails and no brakes! Scariest time of my life. My daughter was driving using the gears to slow down. We drove from Castello Branco to Sao Pedro do Sul where we stayed the night and bathed in the thermal springs before continuing on to Porto. A very wild area with not many villages or people. The people we met were all lovely. My son-in-law speaks Portuguese which made it easier for my daughter and me.
