I feel the same in Rome as I do in every old city in Europe. I imagine I’m walking in the footsteps of the emperors or even the plebs from centuries past. Rome has that. I refused to enter Vatican City on moral grounds. But I did find a truly beautiful Roman Catholic Church to visit instead. And no tourists!
