Fraser Island is not too far from me and the couple of times I've been it's just for a day trip 4WDing. The fresh water lakes are the most amazing thing. It's like swimming in filtered water. I haven't camped there though. One rule of camping in Australia is always zip up the tent every time you go in and out. not just for spiders but for mozzies and other insects too.
