Do I have antiques in my house?

Not counting myself. I’m not quite there yet.

This is my granny’s washstand. The matching jug, bowl, soap dish and vase were beautiful but were destroyed by Rowan as a toddler.

An antique is something that’s more than 100 years old. Something is vintage if it’s more than 50 but less than 100. And there’s also retro which covers stuff from the sixties that’s readily identifiable with this era. I’m making this up so you don’t have to believe me. Cars are described differently. They can be vintage or classic.

This buffet used to have so many layers of varnish it was black. Paint stripper and elbow grease was the first process. This was passed down from my first husband’s gran.

I have a washstand that belonged to my grandmother which is more than 100 years old. I have my granny’s complete dinner set which is 100 years old. I believe it was a wedding gift to her. I’ve always loved it. When we were kids, we ate from the breakfast bowls every morning and used the plates as well so some are more worn than others.

My granny’s dinner set.
