Children were the reason I stayed in my first marriage. I kept thinking things would get better. I’m an eternal optimist. When they got much much worse, I packed up my three children aged 10, 6 and 4 and drove almost 1,000km overnight to my parents. I look back and can’t believe how brave I was.
