A Solitary Moment

I’m sitting here on my own contemplating life. I’m babysitting Phoenix. Well, it’s actually dog-sitting but I’m not allowed to call it that. She’s a member of the family.

I can tell you it’s not as hard as looking after my grandson. He’s walking now and has “inspector gadget” arms. He’s quite tall and there’s very little than can be kept out of his reach. He stands on tiptoes to reach a plate or knife on the kitchen bench.

On Christmas Eve he was dressed in his gingerbread man suit and he managed to reach the jar of nappy cream. It was everywhere! Keeley freaked! Of course, it happened while I was supposed to be watching him (I was trying to catch up on my Medium reading) while Keeley was cooking a special Christmas Eve dinner.

He had nappy cream everywhere. He’d tried eating it. Actually, I think he just chewed on the lid. I wanted to read the label but I didn’t have my glasses on. Keeley panicked and rang the poison hotline only to be told it’s one of the least dangerous things a baby can eat. Thank God. She was blaming me enough as it was! I accepted the blame and proceeded to clean him up and then the mess he had made on the floor.

I wish I’d had the presence of mind to take a photo to send to his uncle. Caelin is just like Rowan was as a baby — always into…
