7. Who is your oldest friend?
What do you mean, Keeley? Who is the friend whom I’ve known the longest or who is the chronologically oldest friend?
I’ve lost touch with all of my high school friends and University friends. And people I knew from way back then, I’m not exactly friends anymore.
A few years back, I had three best friends — I couldn’t ever decide who was the closest. I travelled with one to Europe for 4 months — we are not friends anymore (we had been best friends for 34 years.) Another one, who had been my close friend since 1991 suddenly stopped being my friend just before COVID. I’m not sure what I did or didn’t do. The third one and I are still Facebook friends but I haven’t seen her since April 2019. I still invite her to every single one of our girls’ get-togethers but she always has some excuse.
I have two groups of friends I have been friends with for a long time. One is my old teaching pals. I’ve known them since 1984. Another is my old netball team. We started playing netball as a team in 1992. I have regular catchups with these gals. The ex-teachers’ shindig is usually a morning tea or lunch and the netballers’ get-together is a Friday or Saturday night or Sunday lunch, depending on the hostess, or occasionally a weekend away (for birthdays.)
I have another friend I met at the markets in 2015 and we travelled to China…
