20. Did I Ever Go Camping When I was a Kid?
Here’s the story of our last camping trip.
I can only remember sleeping in a tent once when I was a kid. Maybe it was a circus tent? No, really it was a square canvas tent and we had beds made of canvas slung over two metal rods about 4 inches off the ground. I know my description isn’t good, but if you’re old enough to have slept on one, you’ll know what I mean. They make dog beds like that now. 😆
I didn’t go camping again till I was in my forties. I planned to go camping when I was 30 but packed up my three kids and left my husband the week before. We had bought all the gear, but I didn’t take any of it with me. I packed up the kids and my daughter’s 4th birthday Dolly Varden cake in my car and left. I had a small furniture van take the essentials, the kids’ beds, the piano and a sideboard I had restored and not much else. I didn’t take the fridge, the freezer, the washing machine or our Sealy Posturepedic queen bed. I left them for him. What a generous fool I was!
