14. Did I Flourish or Flail During 2020?

I prefer to think of 2020 as the year that never was. I was lucky. I arrived home from four months of travelling a month before COVID-19 locked down the world. I was laughing. I chose to travel in 2019 and not put it off for another year because I thought my health might deteriorate. As it turned out, it wasn’t my health that I should have been worried about. It was the health of the whole world.

All those people who said “how can you afford it?” etc and had trips booked for 2020 (almost all of my friends) had to cancel their plans and mostly sunk into depression — not me — I was only miffed because I couldn’t even plan another trip because I didn’t know how long it would be before travel would be permitted.

I travelled at the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 with no money and had the lockdown to pay it off. I went 10 weeks without going out of my front gate. I’m lucky I have a big yard and a pool. I don’t do online shopping so I saved so much money not being able to go anywhere. No dances, no trivia, no coffee dates!

I also had a problem with my knees. I wanted to get new knees in 2020 but my surgeon wouldn’t cooperate. He said I needed to be in more pain than I was and not be able to walk. Well, that finally happened in 2022. In the meantime, I developed…
